“I think the roof will help keep the house a much warmer temperature : )”— Proper installation and insulation of roof is what make the house give the comfortable temp that you want. You won't be cool inside your home if your roof is either too thick or otherwise.

I agree with Elizabeth. It's all because of proper installation. Anyhow, if you want to make your home look warmer, you can try painting your sidings with powder yellow so that it could reflect the spreading of sunlight.

It's not just the roof that can maintain the temperature; the doors and the windows should be considered as well. It's better to make sure that all of them are properly insulated to ensure efficient control of temperature. Its been ages, Claire, and I wish you managed to build an energy-efficient house. :)
